A Pre-Med Biology pursuing a computer science minor sounds a little crazy, and I won't disagree. But, there is a very good reason for my choices. First, it stems from my past. Growing up I was very involved with math, like starting my own math tutoring group and going to competitions. Because of this, I was introduced to computer programming quite early in my life. However, it was at the same time in high school I was faced with a choice to either pursue medicine or computer science. Ultimately I continued down the medical field path. however now that I have completed the course work required for medical school, I decided to revisits this field, as it was a passion from before I didn't want to give up.
Secondly, being someone that truly enjoys learning, I believe furthering my knowledge on something that is so prevalent in our society today, and probably for the foreseeable future is very important to me. Even in research, some level of programming skills is required for you to adequately analyze data. Particularly for bioinformatics, to extract any meaningful data from any large DNA or RNA sample, you will need to be proficient in writing programs to complete these tasks. It is for these reasons that I decided to pursue this minor.
