Humidifier Sensor Calibration

Everyone starts somewhere, as for my research experience, it all started because of a simple problem with humidity in Dr. Zhou's Lab.

Fall 2022

PI: Dr. Zhou

Cancer and Genetics Research Institute

Project Overview

For a while the lab was having problems with the incubators that housed fruit flies we used for experiments. The primary issue was that humidity readings from the sensors inside the incubators were inconsistent, leading us to increase the humidity either by too much, or too little.

My involvement with this issue came as I was the one assigned to find a solution to the problem. So, I turned this into my personal project. I did several tests with the humidity sensor we used, and discovered that the sensors were mis-calibrated, and recalibrated them using techniques I found in a video.

Although this project was short, and by no means is it the standard convention to be considered academic research. It did simulate a serious research environment where I would have meetings with my mentor, presented my findings, and gathered feedbacks
